The Last Blog in the Universe

A lot of people believe that the world will be ending this year; Dec 21st 2012 to be exact. If the world does end then all those years you spent learning to drive, building your career, worrying about your appearance and acquiring material gains would all be for nought.

Just in case Nostradamus and the Mayan calendar were truly right, I believe most of us would feel more comfortable being prepared for the end. The ideal would be an underground bunker strong enough to survive a nuclear blast. Also a storeroom in the bunker with enough supplies to last a few years would be needed. Although I think everyone would prefer if world didn’t end in a nuclear holocaust or fire raining from the sky. So let’s cancel out global warming.

So what will the end of the world be like in Naija? Well……….. First of all, let’s keep in mind that Naija is a third world country. Those of you who may argue that “no, Naija is not as backwards as all those “save a child in Africa” adverts on British and American TV portray us, you’ll have to accept the fact that even though our living standards may not be too backwards, we have still remained backwards in our thinking. No am not going to cite any of the recent tragedies that have occurred because this blog isn’t about all that.

So the main question is how will Naija be if the world were to end this year? Well I’m not referring to any specific kind of ending, whether spiritual, climatic or otherwise. So I really don’t know how it would be or how it would end, but the point to take note of, is that the world would see a definite end an everyone would know it.

To be continued….

Ankara, Traditional or Native: The Beauty of Cultural Patterns

I can't really say I've ever been a fan of fashion; Nigerian or otherwise. If anything I always felt fashion was for bored rich housewives and new generation male teens more in touch with their feminine side.

But as the years went by I learnt to appreciate the virtue in looking good without taking it too far. finding out the right fashion trends to complement your shape and skin tone without just buying whatever you see in the magazines and looking like a complete fool. Like i said I've never really been fashion inclined, but after reading a few issues of MH and GQ for the first time a few years back; I had to realise that some things in life are just pretty much a standard.

This year I developed a new sense of dress and started a change of wardrobe. I mean I feel like I'm too old to be wearing tshirts with cartoon characters on them and wearing sagging jeans; but that didnt really mean that all the colour in my wardrobe had to disappear. Here are some of the creative uses of cultural patterns that inspired me to get a change of wardrobe.

Well i've never been much of a hat person but these were quite inspired.

No matter how old i get, am sure i'll always have a pair of high tops. Am not really sure what these would go with, but these will definitely make you stand out in a crowd.

As I got older I've come to see fashion as an art or form of expression of self and creativity. Though am still not the kind of guy that blindly follows fashion trends. I think I can see myself experimenting with ideas and trying out a few new things.

First Official Blog Post

Alright for those of you who don't know me my name is Ajibade aka Bade. For my first blog post I was gonna upload the first rap song I ever wrote back when I was in high school. But sadly; I lost my rhymes book :-(. So instead am just gonna post the first verse of the song. Since I can still remember it Perfectly.

The New Kid On The Block- Verse 1
Am the new kid on the block and am stunting like a daredevil
Showing off my skills cause my games at the top level
Two hit tracks now I gotta make a treble
Jeans riding low collar popping am a rebel
Don't need any time to adjust to the scene
Just need a chance to get my hands on the green
Get stacks so fat that I stand with a lean
All the girls screaming dope boys looking real keen
I know what ladies like so they call me the playmaker
I don't like commitment so they say am a bad dater
Am at the top spot and I aint gotta pretend
Bringing hip hop back to life even though they say its dead.
